Birth Place

I was born in Brush CO. I grew up in coal mining camps until 10, then we moved to the farm in Hillrose, CO, where I graduated from high school with eight others in my class.

Family Information

My Dad was born in Colorado so I am a real native. My stepmother is in a care facility in Brush and approaching her 94th birthday. I have a twin brother, one other brother and a sister still living in Brush. I have another sister in Denver. My first husband and I were married in 1952. I became Mrs. Charles Collier in January of 2005. I have a daughter living in Idaho Falls, ID and a son living in Brighton. Between them, I have 9 grandchildren.

Education

I graduated from Colorado A & M now known as CSU with a degree in Math and taking minors in the physical sciences and PE. At age 49, I returned to College at Metro State to pursue a Business degree with emphasis in Accounting. I completed most of the course work but ran out of time to finish a degree in Business.

Experience

I taught Junior High Math, Science and PE at Lakewood Junior High for five years, retiring to raise a family. I worked at Credit Unions for 20 years as their Accountant/Controller starting with Denver Teamsters then to Fitzsimmons and finishing my “working” career at Jeffco Credit Union. I retired in 1995 and found too much time on my hands so I enrolled in H & R Block tax courses and spent six years as a tax preparer.

What do you do at AUMC?

I volunteered in the church accounting office as a collection counter on Sunday mornings working with Kay Bailey. My nature tells me to understand and know what I’m doing so when Kay retired and SPRC had not found a replacement for her, I came in with 2 others and we managed the finances of the Church for 3 months as volunteers. SPRC hired someone and I stayed on as a counter and recorder of contributions. When the vacancy occurred again, I stepped in to help out. That was in July of 2005. I’m still here.

What do you like most about being part of the AUMC team?

The thing I like most about being a part of AUMC is that I dearly love my job and find the work environment to be very pleasant. This includes plant and colleagues. Only as a staff member does one understand the total workings of the church and the amount of effort that goes into it by all the staff.

What outside interests or hobbies do you have?

I belong to Indian Tree Par 3 Ladies Golf Club and am currently serving as their treasurer. I bowl in a senior league during the fall-winter-spring season. Mention Bridge and I’m available. Traveling is also a big part of my life. I have set foot on all the continents. This May, Charles and I are planning a trip to Israel, Jordon and Egypt.
