UMCOR Depots Need Layettes
August 06, 2010
United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR) has sent out an urgent appeal to UM churches for Layette Kits to meet the needs of infants in emergency situations around the world. UMW has decided to focus on the needs of Haiti.
Each Layette Kit contains: 6 cloth diapers, 2 shirts or 2 one-piece body suits, 2 baby washcloths, 2 gowns or sleepers, 2 diaper pins, 1 sweater open in the front, 2 receiving blankets. The value of each kit is approximately $35, but it's good idea to shop for sales! The kits should contain only NEW items, nothing more.
You may help meet this urgent need by placing one or more kit items in the baby crib in the Narthex, or by indicating on your check to AUMW as for UMW Layette Kits. Volunteers will assemble the kits for shipping to UMCOR depots after August 6. Arvada UMW will pay for shipping kits to the depots.

Labor Day New Beginnings - Join a Choir!
August 11, 2010
As students return to school and we, as a congregation, experience our new worship service times, perhaps it is time for YOU to consider serving AUMC by joining the Chancel Choir. Rehearsals begin on Wednesday, August 11th at 7:00 p.m. We will begin singing at the 9:30 a.m. service on August 15th. On September 5th, we will be singing at our new 10:00 a.m. worship service.
Youth & Adults of all ages are welcomed and encouraged to give the Chancel Choir a try! We will be trying many different styles and genres of music as we continue to bring a positive message to the congregation. The Chancel Choir also has SO MUCH FUN! Yes, we may look old and weathered at times, but we are definitely young at heart and enjoy our time together. We laugh as often as we sing!
Please contact Debbie Willeford for more details about giving the choir a try. We are waiting to welcome YOU!

Readers are invited to come, share their reflections on the novel, "Angle of Repose" by Wallace Stegner, at 1:30 p.m., Aug. 25th at AUMC's John Allen Memorial Library. Stegner's use of Mary Hallock Foote's
historical letters give the novel's locations Leadville, New Almaden, Idaho and Mexico. Basing the character Susan Burling Ward on Mary Hallock Foote, the author gives an authentic feel and adds vividness to the Ward family's struggles with the environment, shady businessmen and politicians of pioneer times.
