Summer Arts Camp

2026 Summer Arts Camp Registration Coming Soon!

Arvada United Methodist Church is offers an annual  two week Theater Arts Camp every summer.  Campers receive instruction from professional artists in theater, music, and dance.  Participants  also learn about set, prop and costume design and audition techniques.  Each year, the camp culminates in performances of a new musical composed by New York composer and Music Director, Tristian Wyant with lyrics and book by AUMC’s Director of Music and Worship Arts, Timothy Kennedy.  All participants in the camp will have a role in the final performances which will be given at Arvada United Methodist Church on July 17th, 18th, and 19th.

The cost of the camp includes two weeks of camp, lunch and snacks each day, and all materials needed to create the production.  Payment must be made at the time of registration and includes a non-refundable $50 administration fee. There are limited spaces in the camp, and the spaces will be filled on a first come/first served basis.  Scholarships for students who cannot afford the camp are available.  Registrants may apply for a needs-based scholarship during the on-line registration process. If you are unable to register online, contact Arvada United Methodist Church to receive a hard copy of the registration.

Camp Protocols

Minimum Number of Campers
Due to the cost of the overhead of the camp, we must have a minimum of 30 campers registered in order for the camp to move forward.  Due to this, we will hold your camper(s) spots until we have reached that minimum but cannot guarantee that the camp will happen until we have reached that minimum.  We have never had a problem reaching our camper minimum in the past, but must notify you of this policy in the unlikely case that this would happen. In the event that the camp would not reach the minimum, a full refund including the registration fee would be returned to any registrants. As soon as we reach the 30 camper minimum, we will notify all registered campers that the camp is moving forward.

Cancellation Policy
Because of the popularity of this camp, we are not always able to accommodate everyone that is interested in attending the camp. Due to this, by signing up and paying the registration fee or by filling out a scholarship application, you are guaranteed that a space is being held for your camper(s) for the camp.  In order to make sure that as many campers have a space for them as possible, if a camper cancels at any point between registration and the first day of camp, the $50.00 administration fee is non-refundable. The rest of the registration is fully refundable up through the start of the first day of camp.  If a camper chooses to cancel after the start of the first day of camp, there will be no refund offered.

Conflicts with Camp Days
Due to the popularity of this camp and the fact that the goal of the camp is to give campers a full arts experience of learning, producing, and presenting a musical theater performance, it is essential to the camp and out of respect of the other campers, that all campers plan on performing in all three stated performances of the camp show.

As a reminder, the camp performances are scheduled for Fri., July 17th at 7:00 pm, Sat., July 18th at 7:00 pm, and Sun., July 19th at 3:00 pm.

We are expecting all parents and guardians of our campers to commit to making sure that all campers can perform these performances and they will not miss them due to any other activities, conflicts, or family vacations. Failure to take this policy seriously will result in campers not being allowed to register for future years of camp.

Two New Policies for 2026
Due to the fact that kids are becoming booked in multiple activities at the same time and the fact that all of the daily camp activities are built to give campers the tools and skills to perform in the final performances of the camp, we have added two new policies pertaining to camp attendance.

1. All parents or guardians must inform the camp directors in advance of the camp starting of any schedule conflicts that will require their campers to miss some or all of a camp day.  There is a place in the box below for parents and guardians to inform us of those conflicts at the time of registration.  If conflicts should arise after registration, it is required that parents inform us of those conflicts prior to the start of camp.

2. We are placing a limit on the number of hours a week campers can miss. Campers may not miss more than 12 hours a week of camp for conflicts such as extra curricular activities, appointments, etc. Should any campers miss more than 12 hours a week due to activity conflicts, the camp staff have the right to pull that camper from the final performances.

Please note that this policy only pertains to the camp days. We are no longer allowing campers to miss any performances due to previously scheduled activities. Please refer back to that policy above (under "Conflicts with Camp Days").

Cell Phone Policy
We are aware that many of our campers have cell phones and that at times, parents and guardians use those cell phones as a safety tool to stay in touch with their children.  Due to this, campers are allowed to bring cell phones to camp. However, we have the following guidelines for cell phone usage during the camp:

1. Campers are not allowed to use their cell phones during camp activities unless they have been given permission by a camp director, camp counselor, teacher, or adult helper. Usage may be allowed at snack breaks, lunch, or during an activity when a camper wishes to use their device to research something to do with the activity we are doing such as set design.

2. Campers should not be accessing social media during camp.

3. Campers should not be texting or calling anyone during camp beyond their parent or guardian.

4. Any usage of a cell phone by a camper at a time that is not authorized by an adult will result in the phone being taken away and returned to the camper's parent or guardian at the end of the camp day.

5. Any inappropriate usage of a cell phone to access social media, to access inappropriate material, or to contact people beyond the parent or guardian will result in the phone being taken away and returned to the camper’s parent or guardian at the end of the camp day.
